Meet #1 - Sudbury

1.  Our first meet of the season is Thursday, September 20th (tomorrow) and it will take place at Wayland High School.  The meet is expected to begin around 3:30.  We hope to see many families cheering us on tomorrow.

2.  All XC team members should wear an orange Wayland shirt if you have one.  Unfortunately, our running shirts have not arrived yet so we will have to wait for our uniforms until our second meet.  Once the uniforms arrive, athletes are able to purchase an orange Wayland XC shirt for $11.00.  The Wayland Boosters help us with purchasing these shirts.  The shirts will be used as our uniform for the season and then athletes can keep them.  Once we have a delivery date, XC team members will bring a check for $11.00 made out to Wayland Boosters.  More information will follow about the shirts and payment next week.

3.  XC team members will need to board one of the first round of buses tomorrow.  These buses will transport our runners to the high school for the meet.  If someone misses one of the first round buses, then they will need to find another way to the high school.  Coaches are not allowed to transport athletes.  Team members will be reminded during both the AM and PM announcements about hustling out to the buses.  Coaches will be present to assist.

4.  Once at the high school, coaches will meet the team, prepare the course, warm-up and stretch before the races begin.  It is a XC tradition that the home team walk the course with the visiting team so all runners are familiar with the course.  Our home course is just under 1.7 miles and it is a double loop.  The course is a good one for spectators because you can see a lot of the race from the start and finish line.

5.   As usual, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.  We are looking forward to our home opener tomorrow at WHS.  Go Warriors!

XC Weekly Update:

1.  We had a very good first week of practice and are looking forward to this coming week.  Below you will find the schedule for the week with some very important information.

Monday - Practice from 2:30-3:45 at Wayland Middle School

Tuesday - Practice will take place at Wayland High School.  Students will board one of the first round of buses at the middle school and will be transported to the high school for practice.  The coaches will help team members board the buses and then we will meet the team at the high school for practice.  Please plan to pick up your child at the high school at 3:45.

Thursday - We have our first home meet of the season against Sudbury.  Once again XC team members will board one of the first round of buses and will be transported to the high school for our meet.  There will be 2 separate races (one boys race and one girls race).  The boys will run first on Thursday and we expect the race to begin around 3:30.  It is a XC tradition that the girls team will cheer on the boys and then the boys will cheer on the girls.  Team members are expected to stay for both races and then help clean-up at the conclusion of the meet.

Friday - We will practice at the middle school until 3:45.

2.  We have been asked by the athletic director to remind families that everyone must pay the user fee in order to participate.  Thanks to those families who have already paid.  If you have not paid, please click on the link below.  Thanks for your prompt attention to this.

Please click here to pay the user fee for our XC team.

3.  If you have any questions, please let us know.  Hope to see you at the meet on Thursday.  If the weather forecast holds true for heavy rain on Tuesday, we will probably have practice at the middle rather than the high school.  We will send an update if there are any changes.

XC News and Notes:

1.  We will have our first practice of the season on Tuesday, the 11th of September.  All XC team members will change for practice in the locker rooms and then will report to the outdoor basketball courts at 2:30.  We plan on practicing from 2:30-3:45 on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday next week.

2.  All XC team members should bring a water bottle, sneakers, comfortable running clothing and a positive attitude with them to practice each day.

3.  Everyone who is receiving this email has already registered on Family ID.  Please be sure your child has a current physical on file with the school nurse.  If the current physical is not on file, then your child will not be able to participate in practice until it is updated.  An updated physical is a physical summary form that your doctor provides to you and it is good for 13 months from the date of the physical.

4.  The XC team practices rain or shine so please have your child plan accordingly.  We typically have indoor workouts if there are downpours or storms in sight.

5.  Several families have asked about transportation for our away meets...We are always transported to and from away meets and our return time varies due to distance and traffic.  We will be able to give you our best ETA in our weekly emails throughout the season.

6.  Pick-up is at 3:45 each day.  Please plan on picking up your child at WMS at this time.

7.  We are very excited to start the season and train with the team.  Both coaches run daily with the team and help encourage everyone along the way.

8.  The WMS XC Team has a blog that is updated every few days and it also contains information about our meets and our schedule.  It can be accessed by clicking here.  Please take the time to register for regular blog updates on the right hand side of the blog.

9.  If you have any questions, please let us know.
